Frontier Co-op Hawthorn Berries, also referred to as haws, have been used since the 19th century as a tonic. Hawthorn Berries are tiny fruits from the shrubs of several Crataegus species, which are native to Europe.
Our hawthorn berries are tart but mildly sweet and make a great on the go snack. The berries have a slight hint of apple which adds a familiar flavor to many recipes. Hawthorn berries have traditionally been utilized in many different ways. Hawthorn berries can be infused in alcohol or vinegar, as well as added to honey, ketchup, and even delicious jams. They are sometimes used as an ingredient in tannic teas. These flavorful red berries are also commonly used in candies, wines, and cordials.
